Programs for Youth
Life Skills Classes

Life Skills Classes are designed to educate youth on the many topics relevant to adolescence in our society. Held on Tuesdays, each week provides a new topic. Life Skills Classes are taught by local professionals. All youth, ages 13-17, are welcome to participate. Classes are free. To register a youth for Life Skills Classes, please complete and submit the Registration Form. For more information, please call 417-522-4654. 

TIME:  Tuesdays, 4:00 - 5:00pm (Students are asked to arrive 5 minutes prior to class.)

LOCATION:  Midtown Carnegie Library
                          397 E. Central St.
                          Springfield, Missouri

To maintain confidentiality and comfort, only staff is permitted in the Community Room during class. A seating area is provided for parents and other individuals.

AUGUST 3- MONEY MANAGEMENT
We will discuss ways to earn and save money as a young adult.

AUGUST 10- SAFE DATING
We will discuss the red flags and consequences of unhealthy realtionships as well as the dangers of promiscuity.

AUGUST 17-
BACK TO SCHOOL
Youth will learn study techniques, test taking tips and how to succeed in school.

AUGUST 24- NO CLASS (First day of school)

AUGUST 31- STRESS/ANXIETY
Youth will learn valuable information regarding adolescent stress and anxiety. We will cover the best ways to handle and prevent such emotions.

SEPTEMBER 7- INTERNET SAFETY
We will discuss the risks of social networking as well as the red flags of an online predator. 

SEPTEMBER 14- LIFE SKILLS
We will cover the very basics of a healthy, well-rounded individual including SPS's character words.

SEPTEMBER 21- DRINKING AND DRIVING
A mother shares her story about the loss of her teenage son due to an alcohol induced car accident.

SEPTEMBER 28- SEXTING
Sexting has become the newest form of flirting among adolescents. We will discuss the risks and consequences.

OCTOBER 5- JOB READINESS
Youth will learn how to seek employment, complete an application correctly and interview appropriately.

OCTOBER 12- NO CLASS
